2nd Workshop of Gallaecia PET Network strengthens the promotion of pioneering projects in PET technology
The members of the Luso-Galician collaboration recently met in Santiago de Compostela.
The second workshop of the Gallaecia PET Network took place in Santiago de Compostela on 8 and 9 October. In addition to visiting different laboratories and infrastructures, scientists, health professionals and policymakers discussed different challenges and strategic issues. Gallaecia PET is a Portuguese-Galician collaborative network for the advancement of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) techniques, equipment and services.
Public-private cooperation between Portuguese and Galician cross-border partners will address major technological challenges. The Gallaecia-PET network, set up just over a year ago, aims to coordinate and significantly increase the different capacities available in both territories in the field of PET technology, from pre-clinical research and development of radiopharmaceuticals to their clinical use.
The collaborative network focuses much of its efforts on communication and training. These activities also aim to expand the network itself, through the involvement of new collaborators and the development of new collaborative research projects, both between members of the network and external members who were not part of the original network.
The network includes the Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health (ICNAS Pharma), the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP), the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC), ATI Sistemas SA, the University of Aveiro (UA), the Centre for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS) of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS), Galaria Empresa Pública de Servizos Sanitarios de la Consellería de Sanidade, Qubiotech Health Intelligence SA, Radiation Imaging Technologies Lda. (RI-TE) and the University of Vigo (UVigo).
