34th ‘Conversations at the UC House of Lusophony’ celebrates 50 years since resumption of diplomatic relations between India and Portugal

The event will take place this Wednesday, 30 April, at the 'Colégio da Trindade', featuring a lecture by the Indian Ambassador to Portugal.

The University of Coimbra (UC), in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Portugal, is hosting the 34th edition of Conversations at the House of Lusophony this Wednesday, 30 April, to mark the 50th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between India and Portugal. The event begins at 14:30 at the Colégio da Trindade.

João Nuno Calvão da Silva, UC’s Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni, will open the session, featuring a keynote speech by Puneet R. Kundal, India’s Ambassador to Portugal, on India’s Strategy in the Current Context.

The programme will also include a talk by Sabá da Silva, Professor of Law at the Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law (Margão, Goa), on The Influence of Portuguese Law in India: The Experience of Goa, Damão and Diu, and a contribution by Walter Rossa, holder of the UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Dialogue on Heritages of Portuguese Influence, titled Training and Research on the Common Cultural Heritage: Cooperation between the Universities of Goa and Coimbra.

The event will also feature the presentation of the book 150 Years of Application of the Seabra Civil Code in the Territories of Goa, Damão and Diu, introduced by its author, Rui de Figueiredo Marcos, Director of the Sino-Lusophone Academy.

The gathering includes a musical performance and food tasting, and will conclude with the screening of the Indian film RRR: Rise Roar Revolt, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, at 16:30.

Admission is free.

Conversations at the UC House of Lusophony is a series that brings together current and former University of Coimbra students - both national and international- by gathering distinguished guests to discuss pressing contemporary issues.
