First edition of 'Mercadinhos da Margem Esquerda' to be held this Saturday
The event is organised by UC Exploratório in partnership with the Office for Sustainable Development of the University of Coimbra. Entrance is free.
This Saturday, 9 November, the Alameda do Exploratório will host the first edition of the initiative “Mercadinhos da Margem Esquerda” [Left Bank Little Markets], promoted by the UC Exploratório in partnership with the Office for Sustainable Development of the University of Coimbra (UC), the União de Freguesias de Santa Clara e Castelo de Viegas, and Coimbra Mais Futuro Association.
‘Mercadinhos’ will offer a wide range of quality food products, available for direct purchase from producers. Visitors can expect an assortment of fruits and vegetables, both organic and conventionally grown, including by social institutions in Coimbra. Additionally, there will be unique items such as microgreens, edible flowers, rose jelly and vinegar, special citrus varieties, and regional legumes now rarely seen, like chícharo and chícharo flour, among plenty of other tasty products like goat cheese or chestnuts.
The collaborative and experimental event involves social entities from Coimbra that produce their agricultural products. It is part of UC Exploratório - Centro Ciência Viva da Universidade de Coimbra's mission to engage the public with science, in a hands-on and meaningful way, bringing local producers closer to audiences interested in knowing more about what they consume.
The 'Mercadinhos da Margem Esquerda' will return for a special Christmas market in December.
