ICNAS celebrates 16th anniversary this Thursday
The 2nd edition of the JJ Pedroso de Lima Prize will be awarded at the commemorative event, taking place at 11:00 a.m. at ICNAS.
The Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health (ICNAS) of the University of Coimbra (UC) will celebrate its 16th anniversary on Thursday, 24 April. The commemorative event, which includes the presentation of the second edition of the JJ Pedroso de Lima Prize, will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the ICNAS facilities (ground floor).
The JJ Pedroso de Lima Prize, launched in 2024 and worth 10,000 euros, pays tribute to the "renowned physicist and professor at the University of Coimbra", João José Pedroso de Lima (1934–2016). It is awarded annually to "students, teachers or researchers with a background in basic sciences or engineering" who have "excelled in noteworthy projects in the field of nuclear sciences applied to health".
The winner of the 1st edition was Alexandra Fonseca, a PhD student in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, recognised for her research into the development of radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases.
The commemorative session will feature addresses by the Director of ICNAS, Antero Abrunhosa; the Deputy Director, Maria João Vidigal; ICNAS researcher Francisco Alves; the winner of the first edition of the JJ Pedroso de Lima Prize, Alexandra Fonseca; Professor João Pedroso Lima (representing the family of the honouree); and the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão.
