The Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing (MIA-Portugal), the first institute in Southern Europe dedicated to translating scientific research into strategies for healthy and active ageing, will host the 1st International Symposium on Ageing of the Vascular, Immune, Haemaopoietic and Musculoskeletal Systems on 30 June and 1 July 2025.

The symposium will take place in Auditorium 2 of the Student Hub, located on Campus I of the University of Coimbra (UC), bringing together internationally renowned experts to explore the interconnected mechanisms of ageing across four critical biological systems. Although these systems are often studied separately, they are deeply interdependent. Participants will therefore adopt an overarching, interdisciplinary approach.

For two days, researchers and experts will delve into pivotal topics such as tissue degeneration, stem cell dysfunction, regenerative medicine, and emerging therapies. The programme includes scientific presentations and themed sessions, as well as opportunities for participants to engage in in-depth discussions.

The event is open to national and international members of the scientific community, who will be able to present their research findings. Early-career researchers based in Coimbra are strongly encouraged to participate.

The symposium is organised by MIA-Portugal, in collaboration with the European Research Council (ERC).

Registration is open until 16 June and must be completed via the official event website: https://www.uc.pt/mia/symposium-on-ageing-of-the-vascular-immune-haemaopoetic-and-musculoskeletal-systems/
