William Shakespeare, English poet and playwright, wrote some of the world's most famous plays. Over the centuries, his works have been read, spoken and reinvented.
Such is the case with 'An Evening with Shakespeare'. Wagner Merije, of the duo Ulysses & Orpheu, explains: "The idea was born from a desire to revisit Shakespeare through a contemporary and interdisciplinary language, integrating poetry, music, dance, and images, in an organic and intimate way".
Wagner Merije, who holds a Doctorate in Literature from the University of Coimbra, adds that the multimedia show, which will be presented at Liquidâmbar on 8 May at 9 pm, offers an 'intense and engaging sensory experience' that invites each member of the audience to experience universal emotions such as love, loss, power, and hope."
The show, which focuses on the fusion of different artistic expressions, is part of the 6th edition of 'Mimesis | Theatre and Performing Arts Cycle,' which, according to Merije, is "a creative platform open to innovation and dialogue between different artistic languages."
By revisiting five of the playwright's seminal plays, the organisers – Ulysses & Orpheu and Companhia Luminária de Performances – aim to "remind us that artistic language remains one of the most powerful spaces for celebrating what makes us human."
