The Centre for Studies and Development of Continuous and Palliative Care at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC) is promoting the specialisation course Communication and Bereavement in Palliative and End-of-Life Care. The 32-hour course (4 ECTS) will take place on 23–24 May and 13–14 June in Subunit 3 of Campus 3 - FMUC, coordinated by Professors Marília Dourado and Hugo Cruz Ribeiro.
The course is designed to address a 'serious shortfall among health professionals', according to the organisers. Aimed at doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers and other professionals, the training programme will enhance knowledge in the areas of communication and grief management, covering topics such as compassion, spirituality, parental and relational loss, bereavement in palliative care, and the role of psychiatry and psychotropic drugs in coping with loss. The specialisation also aims to equip professionals with the skills to provide individualised care to families and to develop diagnostic and intervention strategies across different life stages and bereavement contexts.
