The University of Coimbra (UC) reinforces its position in the research and innovation landscape by being the only national higher education institution to have two projects approved under the Inter-Regional Innovation Investment (I3) instrument.

These are the first UC projects to be approved under this funding scheme, securing a total of 1.2 million euros for the institution: I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS and I3-4-SEAWEED.

In this way, the University of Coimbra continues to establish itself in the development of scientific research and innovation in Portugal, consolidating its role as a key strategic partner for the Portuguese business sector in the field of innovation.

I3 is a funding instrument of the European Innovation Council and SME Executive Agency (EISMEA), which aims to support interregional innovation projects in their commercialisation and scaling up phases, providing them with the necessary tools to overcome regulatory, financial and other barriers.

The approved projects cover areas of significant societal and scientific relevance as they focus on developing sustainable solutions.
