"It is fast becoming a new university tradition," said Cristina Albuquerque, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Attractiveness of the University of Coimbra (UC), during her speech at the sixth ‘UC à Frente’ awards ceremony on 15 May, which marked the official opening of Open Week 2025. Addressing a packed audience of students, families and teachers, Albuquerque added that this “symbolic tribute recognises commitment, strength, dedication and a desire to keep learning”.

This year, the ‘UC à Frente’ Awards honoured 27 students who were admitted to a UC Bachelor's or Integrated Master's degree programme with an application grade point average of 18 or higher (out of 20) and who selected UC as their first choice. The awards marked the start of the third Open Week, being held at the Coimbra University Stadium from 15 to 17 May.

UC Open Week is an opportunity to discover, find inspiration and make informed decisions. This initiative is aimed at students in Years 7 to 12, as well as teachers, parents, family members and guardians. It showcases the University of Coimbra's educational programmes, research projects, services, and cultural, civic, and sports activities, including those provided by the Coimbra Academic Association (Associação Académica de Coimbra / Coimbra Students Union - AAC).

"Our students are our most valuable asset, and the UC Open Week provides a valuable opportunity for the university to present itself to the country and prospective students," said UC Rector Amílcar Falcão.

In addition to presenting the university's extensive academic offerings across its eight faculties and nursing school, as well as the wide range of available activities, Open Week also provides guidance for prospective students and their families who wish to learn more about Coimbra, the university, and its degree programmes, added Amílcar Falcão.
