UC among the best in the world in 16 research fields
ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects places the University of Coimbra in the world's top 150 in Pharmacy and pharmaceutical Sciences and in the world's top 200 in Civil Engineering.
The University of Coimbra ranks among the top 150 universities worldwide for research in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and among the world’s top 200 higher education institutions in Civil Engineering, according to the prestigious ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, which released its 2024 edition on Monday, 11 November.
The ranking once again recognises the University of Coimbra as one of the top higher education institutions for research in scientific fields such as Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (ranked 101–150) and Civil Engineering (ranked 151–200), and highlights the knowledge produced by the university in 16 fields of study.
Food Science and Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Geography, Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences are among the world’s top 300 (ranked 201–300).
Research in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Ecology, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemistry places the University of Coimbra among the world’s top 400 (ranked 301–400), while its research in Biotechnology, Clinical Medicine, and Psychology ranks it among the world’s top 500 (ranked 401–500)
ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024 analysed universities worldwide with a certain number of publications between 2019 and 2023. The indicators used to measure the performance of the world's universities in the most relevant scientific fields included research output, research quality and impact, international collaboration and international academic awards.
