The University of Coimbra (UC) and Empowered Startups have signed a second cooperation protocol for joint work on generative architecture using AI and deep learning.

The study was co-signed by Farid Hasnaoui, Managing Director of Graphic Architect, and will be conducted by a research team from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM).

According to DEM professor Eugénio Rodrigues, "Generative Artificial Intelligence models offer promising opportunities to reduce labour costs, speed up production and support decision-making. The partnership aims to develop methodologies for designing sustainable communities that consider both the current and future environmental performance of the built environment to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

The Managing Director of Graphic Architect, Farid Hasnaoui, commented that the visit to the UC "was inspiring and allowed me to better appreciate the history and vibrant academic environment of your institution", adding that he "looks forward to continuing this collaboration".

Nuno Mendonça, UC Pro-Rector for Business Relations, noted that "this partnership will further enhance technological developments by leveraging the research and innovation potential of our university".

This agreement follows the protocol signed in January between UC and Empowered Startups, which aims to attract international entrepreneurs to the University's ecosystem. The ceremony took place on 30 October at UC Business.
