The University of Coimbra will host the first-ever Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) conference in Portugal on 17 May, at the Convento São Francisco in Coimbra. The event is organised by the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCTUC), in collaboration with SGAC.

SGAC is an international non-profit organisation, affiliated with the United Nations, that brings together students and young professionals in the space sector. Present in over 160 countries, it promotes innovation, networking and collaboration through events designed to shape the next generation of space leaders.

The Coimbra meeting will feature inspiring talks, practical workshops and lively debates on the future of the space industry, with a special focus on the Portuguese space sector and its key players. Participants will have the chance to engage with the SGAC community, build connections, and explore career paths in the space field.

The meeting cuts across multiple fields of study and includes motivational talks by experts such as Nuno Peixinho and Ricardo Gafeira, researchers at the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences in Coimbra.

Open to students, researchers and young professionals, this event is a unique opportunity to take part in shaping the future of the space sector in Portugal and beyond.
