UC hosts initiative on the role of biological resource culture collections in society and the future

The programme includes a workshop on the steps needed for greater collaboration and visibility within the industry sector.

The Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) will host an initiative on the 30th of October at the UC Exploratório - Ciência Viva Centre, focusing on the role of biological resource culture collections in society and in the future.

The programme includes a workshop on "How to improve the national infrastructure PtmBRCN/MIRRI-PT", from 16:00 to 17:00, aimed at culture collections (staff and collaborators). This will be followed by a round table discussion open to the public: "What is the role of biological culture collections in society and in the future?". Focused on the steps needed for greater collaboration and visibility within the industry, it will be held from 17:30 to 19:00.

Registration is free and mandatory.

The public session, coordinated by the Bacterial Culture Collection of the University of Coimbra (UCCCB), will be attended by the Vice-President of the Central Regional Coordination and Development Commission, Alexandra Rodrigues; the Executive Director of the Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure (MIRRI-ERIC), Ana Portugal Melo; FCTUC's Deputy Director Sandra Carvalho; the Head of the Biobank of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT), Ana Paula Ferraz; and a representative of the Fungal Collection of the University of Minho.
