UC kicks off Open Week 2025 with ‘UC à Frente’ Awards
The event will take place from 15 to 17 May at the University Stadium, showcasing the University of Coimbra's educational offerings, research, services, and cultural and sporting activities.
The University of Coimbra (UC) is holding its Open Week from 15 to 17 May (Thursday to Saturday), aimed at students in Years 7–12, teachers, parents and other family members, offering them the opportunity to learn about the University's study programmes, research, services, and cultural and sports activities. The event will take place at Pavilion 1 of the Coimbra University Stadium, opening at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the UC Ahead Awards (Prémios UC à Frente) ceremony, which recognises students from across the country who were admitted to a UC Bachelor's or Integrated Master's degree programme with an application grade point average of 18 or higher (out of 20) and who selected UC as their first choice.
Running until 5 p.m. on Saturday, the programme features a wide range of activities, including an exhibition showcasing UC’s diverse academic offer – spanning eight faculties and a School of Nursing – hands-on experiments in various fields, opportunities to connect with teaching staff, researchers, current students and support services, guidance sessions to explore future academic paths, and information for students and families on accessing higher education, available financial support, and the cultural, civic and sports initiatives promoted by the Coimbra Students’ Union (Associação Académica de Coimbra).
Schools, student groups (Years 7 to 12), teachers, families, psychologists and careers advisers can register for the event free of charge at escolheauc.uc.pt/semana-aberta, where the full programme is also available.
This year's Open Week will begin with the UC Ahead Awards (Prémios UC à Frente) ceremony, honouring the recipients of the 2024 edition. The event will feature speeches by the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão, as well as statements from some of the award-winning students. Representatives from the secondary schools attended by the recipients will also be present.
