UC promotes Sustainability Days from 24 September to 4 October
Awareness-raising panels will be held at each UC campus as part of an event aimed at mobilising the community to meet Sustainable Development Goals. Registration is open until the 22nd of September.
The University of Coimbra (UC) is hosting the second edition of Sustainability Days from 24 September to 4 October. This annual initiative aims to mobilise the community towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda.
The event will feature a series of panels on sustainability and social responsibility, open to both the UC community and the general public, with free admission but mandatory registration required by 22 September here.
On the 24th of September, the sessions will take place at UC Campus II and will focus on skills for the future, the design and construction of sustainable cities and green careers, with the participation of the Sustainable Campus Network, the Coordination of the UC Bachelor's Degree in Management of Sustainable and Smart Cities, and BCSD Portugal.
On the 25th, National Sustainability Day, conferences will be held at Campus I, focusing on topics such as the transition to sustainability and gender equality, with representatives from the ZERO Association and the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality.
Also on that day, the UC Faculty of Economics will host the session 'UC and Sustainable Development', presented by the UC Office for Sustainable Development. And the UC Botanical Garden is organising another edition of the environmental awareness project UC.Plantas - Saber Plantar o Futuro, inviting first-year students to adopt and care for a 'baby tree'.
On the 26th, there will be panels on individual actions towards a more sustainable society, climate change and sustainable development, zero waste in healthcare and the impact of climate change on health, with representatives from organisations such as the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development, the Coimbra Local Health Unit, the Portuguese Council for Health and the Environment and the Zero Waste Portugal Movement.
The 27th will be dedicated to a panel discussion on soft mobility at the University Stadium, and activities are also planned as part of the European Researchers' Night 2024/2025, which will take place on the same day.
On the 28th and 29th of September, the University of Coimbra Exploratório - Centro Ciência Viva will host 'Circular 24', an event that runs concurrently with 'Sustainability Days', offering a 'green' weekend of workshops, lectures, music and theatre.
The second edition of Sustainability Days at the University of Coimbra will conclude on 4 October with the 'Workshop on Renewable Energy Solutions for Coimbra', in the scope of the project Res4City, at Colégio da Trindade.
