The University of Coimbra (UC) is organising the second edition of UC Sports Week from 31 March to 4 April. Over five days, the different UC campuses will host classes and other sports activities, as well as conferences, workshops and round tables.

The second edition of UC Sports Week (31 March - 4 April) aims to promote the practice of sport and a more active lifestyle among the entire University community while also showing how sport relates to different areas of knowledge. The first activity of the week will take place on the 31st at 9.30 am in Auditorium II of the Student Hub: Workshop "Promoting Active Mobility in the University: Reducing Car Use".

The official opening of UC Sports Week will take place next Monday, 31 March, at 11:00, at Pátio das Escolas, with a speech by the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão. The Mega Aula Pausa + Ativa, a weekly physical activity programme aimed at bringing the entire UC community together for stretching and posture exercises, will take place at 11:15. On the same day, at 11:30, the European Cycling Campus & City (3Cs) project will start its cycle tour, with 10 members of the UC community cycling to Madrid (Spain), then to Montpellier (France) and finally to Turin (Italy), linking the four institutions involved in the project.

On Tuesday, 1 April, the Mega Aula Pausa + Ativa will take place at 11:00 on Campus III. In the afternoon, the first session of the conference cycle Multidisciplinary Support for Student-Athletes will be held in the Hybrid Auditorium on Campus I, focusing on injuries and psychological factors in sports. The day will end with an open session of UC+Ativa at 18:00 on Field 1 of the Coimbra University Stadium, where participants will have the opportunity to try out functional training.

On Wednesday, 2 April, there will be an official presentation of the Associação Académica de Coimbra/Universidade de Coimbra (AAC/UC) teams that will compete in the finals of the National University Championships 2025, to be held in Coimbra from 7 to 18 April. At 16:00, the Round Table on Journalism in Sport will take place in the Hybrid Auditorium of Campus I.

On Wednesday the 3rd, the Mega Aula Pausa + Ativa will visit the UC Campus II at 11.00. In the afternoon there will be two conferences on nutrition and emotional regulation in sport. At 18:00, the finals of the International Sports League 2025 will be held at the Coimbra University Stadium, aimed at UC international and mobility students, in basketball, futsal and volleyball.

The 2nd edition of UC Sports Week will conclude with the launch of a special episode of the UC Sports Talk podcast, featuring nutritionist Pedro Mendes. The episode will be available on the UC Sports YouTube channel and Spotify at 5:00 p.m. on the 4th.

“With this week of activities dedicated to sport, we aim to bring the entire University of Coimbra community closer to physical activity. We also want to promote a broad discussion on how sport connects with different areas — such as sustainability, particularly sustainable mobility — reaffirming UC's commitment in this area, especially through the increasingly wide range of sports activities offered to our community,” stresses the Rector of the University of Coimbra.

The UC Pro-Rector for Sport, Filipa Godinho, says: “Once again, this initiative aims to bring the different UC campuses closer together, encouraging interaction and cross-disciplinary knowledge. It's remarkable how collaborating with other fields of knowledge leads to such great ideas and initiatives, such as street journalism. As a result, we are promoting a more active - and therefore healthier - lifestyle to our community in such a simple way. This year's edition of the UC Sports Week will undoubtedly have a special significance with the launch of the 3Cs route, marking a key stage in the European Cycling, Campus & City project”.
