The Social Services of the University of Coimbra (SASUC) will be hosting the 1st International Congress on Mental Health in Young Adults this week, on the 27th and 28th of March 2025, a landmark event for mental health experts, researchers and professionals.

The Congress aims to reflect and discuss the main challenges and progress made in mental health in young adults. The programme will include practical workshops for professionals, oral and poster presentations, roundtables and lectures by renowned experts.

On Thursday (27), activities will take place at Campus I of the University of Coimbra. Throughout the day, the SASUC mental health team will hold several workshops to share best practices for promoting mental health in higher education institutions. Later in the day, at 7pm, clinical psychologist and sexologist Tânia Graça, one of the guest speakers, will deliver the lecture "Let's Talk About Sex" at the Auditorium of the Rectory of the University of Coimbra.

On Friday (28th), the day will begin with addresses from Paulo Peixoto, the University of Coimbra's Pro-Rector for Pedagogical Innovation, and Leonardo Vicente, the Administrator of UC Social Services (SASUC), at the main auditorium of Campus II, followed by a round table discussion marking the 10th anniversary of the University Student Psychiatry Consultation, a service for the UC student community that resulted from an agreement signed between UC and the then Coimbra Hospital and University Centre (now the Coimbra Local Health Unit).

The congress will be live-illustrated by Luísa Amado (Quirky Luísa), offering participants a unique visual experience.

The event is organised by SASUC within the framework of the Programme for the Promotion of Mental Health in Higher Education, as part of the funded project 'S2ES@Coimbra - Supporting Students at Every Step'.
