University of Coimbra to host debate on evacuation during rural fires
The round table will take place on Friday 7 March, bringing together experts from law, civil protection, law enforcement and scientific research.
Should you stay or leave your home during a wildfire? This question will take centre stage in a round-table discussion hosted by the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra. The event will take place from 2:15 to 5:00 pm in the Department of Mechanical Engineering auditorium and will also be streamed online.
Titled Leave or Stay? [“Sair ou ficar?”], the meeting will address the legal, operational and scientific aspects of rural fire evacuations, aimed at clarifying responsibilities and improving procedures. There will be two discussion panels: one on the legal framework and the need for additional legislation; and another on the effectiveness of evacuation strategies, and how to balance the protection of human life with the safeguarding of property.
Participation is free but subject to registration for in-person attendance and Zoom access. The session will also be broadcast on the CEIF/ADAI YouTube channel (no registration required). Further information is available on the event website.
